My children are not used to just having the bottled sandwich spreads in their sandwiches. By bottled sandwich spreads, I mean those tuna/bacon/cheese flavored spreads. Peanut butter though is a different story, they love PB sandwiches but not when packed as snacks more than two times a week.

Sandwiches with something they can chew is what they like better so this Grilled Cheese and Bacon Sandwich was a hit:

Breakfast: grilled cheese and (baked) bacon sandwich

What you need:

  • Cooked bacon strips (I used baked bacon strips)
  • Singles cheese
  • Room temperature butter
  • Sliced bread

How to make the Grilled Cheese and Bacon Sandwich:

  1. Cook bacon strips. (I baked the fresh bacon strips I used)
  2. Spread a little butter on one side of the bread slices. The side with butter will be the “outside” side of the sandwich.
  3. Put the singles cheese and bacon strips on the side of the bread without butter then cover with another bread.
  4. Grill the sandwich in a sandwich maker. If like me, you don’t have a sandwich maker, use a non-stick pan to grill the sandwich on both sides until the bread turns a bit brown but not burnt. For this particular sandwich, I used the oven toaster for easy “grilling” because the cheese I used was soft and would easily melt.
  5. Serve warm.
