We are big fans of leche flan but I must admit, I haven’t done leche flan yet. Until today.
And yes, it was a big hit with the kids and the hubby.
Ingredients:
- 8 egg yolks
- half a can of (Alaska) condensed sweetened milk, approximately 150ml
- 4-5 tsp of fresh milk
- a few drops of vanilla
- 3/4 cup of sugar of caramel topping
What I did was to:
- dissolve the sugar using medium heat ( I use electric stove) in a six-inch baking dish
- while the caramelized sugar was cooling, I mixed/whisked all the first four ingredients
- then poured the mixture into the baking dish with caramelized sugar
I covered the baking dish with a pan lid (I just discovered that I ran out of aluminum foil) and placed this on top of something for steaming (sorry, i don’t know what it’s called, it has holes on it) placed inside a big pan with water.
I covered the big pan with a lid and cooked/steamed till the leche flan got firm.
How do you know if your leche flan is done? Insert a toothpick and if it comes out clean, then the leche flan is done.
Invert the leche flan on a big container and cool before digging in. Yum!
Re the photo, I hope to get another photo tomorrow, a “side view” of a slice 🙂
Tomorrow didn’t come, the leche flan was eaten last night. Good thing I got a photo of that LAST slice:
