Binalot means wrapped.
When binalot is referred to as food, it means Filipino food wrapped in banana leaves. This probably originated from the way our ancestors wrapped food especially those who bring packed lunches to farmers tending the fields.
In the urban areas, binalot food combinations are usually wrapped in banana leaves and brown paper. Combinations are endless and some of the most common combos with rice (fried rice for some), salted egg and tomato(es) are tapa, tocino, longganisa, daing na bangus and embotido among others.
