Pan-Fried Pork Steak

Pan-fried Pork Steak and Baked macaroni for dinner.

The usual meals in Filipino households consist of rice and viand. There are times when we veer away from that pair and have something that is better.

For this dinner, we had pan-fried pork steak and baked macaroni.

Steps to cook Pan-fried pork steak:

For pan-fried pork steak, marinate the meat with oyster sauce, soy sauce, Hickory BBQ sauce and ground pepper for about an hour. I don’t usually measure, I just mix these things together. You can do this overnight for maximum taste and flavor.

Fry the steak on a non-stick pan with a little olive oil.

For the gravy:

  • heat several T (around 4-5) of butter and put in finely chopped onions.
  • Cook until the onions turn translucent.
  • Add 4-5 T of flour and mix until there are no lumps.
  • Pour in broth (you can boil together meat, carrots/leeks/onion and salt and pepper together for a broth, others use plain water with meat-flavored seasoning, I don’t) and stir and mix until you reach the consistency you like.
  • Add a little bit of soy sauce or oyster sauce to make the gravy brown.
  • Add sliced mushrooms and cook, continue stirring to avoid burning the gravy.
  • Season with ground pepper (and salt), depending on your taste preferences.

Serve hot.
